On August, 12 2024, South University, West Palm Beach received a visit from Jason Prevelige, DMSc, MBA, PA-C, DFAAPA, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the AAPA (American Academy of Physician Associates) and Advanced Practice Provider Leader of St. Mary's Hospital Emergency. Prevelige spoke to the first year Master of Science in Physician Assistant (PA) students, sharing his story of how he reached his position, held a Q&A session for the students, and presented a lecture on how to best provide advocacy for patients as part of being a PA.
Prevelige grew up in West Palm Beach, making his visit to the campus like a return home. Later, he attended Sacred Heart University and graduated in 2004 with a BA in History. After college, he began to work around substance abuse in a variety of roles, including case management and counseling. Eventually, he met and worked with a PA who introduced him to the profession and helped him decide his career. Prevelige also attended Quinnipiac University where he received an MBA in 2021 and graduated from the University of the Pacific’s first DMSc cohort in 2023.
During his visit, Prevelige gave a lecture on the challenges PAs face in the current industry, including caring for patients and dealing with legislature that no longer reflects the current era. He encouraged the first year PA students to get involved in their local communities to help provide new insight on how to best care for individuals and work towards creating a new future for PAs.
