South University graduate Trevor Salley is an entrepreneur who started his own transportation business. He credits earning his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 2012 at the Columbia campus for his ability to run a successful business.1

“South University taught me the ins and outs, in detail, of business,” he says. “Understanding the intricacies of business is what I needed to learn. The knowledge I gained as a student contributed directly to my success.”

After earning his BBA degree, Trevor held several roles in sales and management before starting his own company. He originally learned about South University in high school when an admissions representative visited his class. “The small class sizes and individual attention students would receive is what piqued my interest.  I was never interested in going to a large school,” he explains.

When choosing a program to study, Trevor didn’t hesitate. He knew he was interested in business. He was good with numbers and finances, and it just seemed like the right fit. “I always wanted to be a business owner,” he recalls. “I knew at a young age that I wanted to do my own thing and not have a boss.”

Throughout his classes, Trevor kept his goals top of mind. He focused on what he wanted to do and what he needed to do to get there. While his classes weren’t always easy, he kept going with his eyes on the finish line. “School is challenging and you don’t want to waste time on something you are not interested in,” he advises others. “It is easier to stay excited about learning when the subject matter is something that you are genuinely interested in.”

He also described the real-world experience many of his professors brought to the classroom as priceless.2 “They were able to relate the information they were teaching into familiar situations and examples, making it easier to understand and comprehend,” he recalls.

His faculty also encouraged him at every step and assisted him whenever needed. “They were my biggest supporters. Everyone wants you to succeed and is willing to help you get there. For the most part, they felt like family, guiding you along the entire time. I honestly can say that had it not been for their support, I may not have finished,” he shares. “Everything you need to succeed is within those walls!”
