When she heard Independence University was closing, Aisha Strickland wasn’t sure what her next move would be. She wanted to finish her bachelor’s degree in business but didn’t know where to go. Then she learned South University was working with the school to accept transfer students. “South University provided a smooth transition,” Aisha shares. “Plus, they were patient working with all of the concerned and frustrated transfer students from the closed school.”
Aisha graduated in 2023 from South University’s Online Programs with her Bachelor of Business Administration. Aisha originally chose to continue her education to help her advance her career1. She believed that studying business would give her valuable knowledge that was versatile for working in a various industries. “With my desire to understand more aspects of business, the choice for business as a program of study was clear,” she explains.
Today, Aisha works for Amazon as a Human Resources (HR) Assistant. She’s been with the company for nearly six years in various roles. As an HR assistant, Aisha is involved in performance management, employee relations, succession planning, functional HR operations, and policy compliance and interpretation. She regularly reviews resumes and cover letters, assesses interview performance, conducts employee verifications, and assists new employees during their orientation and first months at the company. For current employees, she creates and distributes a company newsletter. She also conducts departure processes when employees leave. Before joining Amazon, Aisha worked in customer service and healthcare.
“South University successfully prepared me for my career with knowledgeable professors and quality study materials2,” says Aisha. “South University faculty and staff impacted me in many ways. Some of them left an impact with their background. Others had encouraging words when it was needed. They would motivate us to work harder with each assignment.”
Throughout her career, Aisha has focused on learning and growth. In addition to her undergraduate education at South University, Aisha has completed multiple certificates, courses, and trainings, most recently from LinkedIn, Amazon, and the Loss Prevention Foundation. Now she has returned to South University to pursue her Master of Science in Human Resources Management.
“It was exciting to be motivated by [South University faculty and] scholars of their level after being discouraged during grade school. Also, meeting other students that had similar struggles that had positive words to share made the difference,” Aisha says. “Now, the goal is not to stop but on to the next degree with South University again and I cannot wait.”
