South University IRB

The South University Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an interprofessional committee comprised of members within the university as well as community members outside of the university. The committee has several nursing practitioners which affords validation for ‘nursing membership on IRB boards’ for the Magnet Recognition Program. The South University IRB reviews nearly 200 proposals annually from various disciplines, including Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Ministry, Doctor of Business Administration, Doctor of Pharmacy, Primary Investigators issuing surveys that lead to Conference Poster Presentations as well as events hosted by the University’s Interprofessional Health Science Leadership Council (IPHSLC).

The South University IRB is committed to ethical practice and principles of human subject research delineated by the Belmont Report of the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research. Equally, the South University IRB follows the ‘Common Rule’, also known as the federal policy for the protection of human subjects, and all revisions. As such, the South University IRB is a registered board with the US Department of Health and Human Services to implement human subjects policies.
